Chapter in an Edited Book

An OpenURL for a chapter in an edited volume — genre=bookitem, with the book title in btitle, the chapter title in atitle, and page numbers.

Scenario

A bibliography refers the user to a specific chapter within an edited book. The chapter has its own title and authorship, distinct from the book as a whole. The OpenURL carries both, plus the page range of the chapter within the book.

Notes

  • The defining detail of a chapter OpenURL is rft.genre=bookitem. The pair (btitle, atitle) then carries (book, chapter).
  • The authors named in rft.aulast/rft.aufirst/rft.au are the chapter's authors, not the book's editors. The Book KEV format does not have a dedicated editor descriptor.
  • Use rft.spage/rft.epage to give the chapter's page range. rft.tpages (total pages) would refer to the book.
